These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your use of TheMetalNet (the “Service”), which is operated by Solaris Endeavors Ltd, a company registered in Israel (“Solaris”, “we”, “us”).
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
TheMetalNet is an informational and educational tool. It shows factual music information — artists, releases, line-ups, genres, and how they connect — through interactive visualizations, maps, search, and filters. It also plays audio and video through the official embedded players of YouTube and Bandcamp, and shows album cover thumbnails.
You may use the Service without creating an account. Creating an account unlocks saving, syncing, sharing, rating, and suggesting corrections. The Service is provided on an evolving basis: features, catalog coverage, and availability can change, and we may add, modify, or remove functionality as the product develops. The Service is free today. We may add optional voluntary contributions or other monetization later, under terms shown at the time.
Some band names, album titles, lyrics, and imagery shown on the Service contain explicit, graphic, or dark material by their nature. Viewer discretion is advised. This content comes from third parties and is shown for factual identification — see Content sourcing below. We do not create or control it. If you find content that is inappropriate or wrong, tell us and we will review it.
Anyone can browse, at any age. Browsing needs no account and no personal information, and there is no contract required to read the catalog.
Creating an account, rating, suggesting corrections, and making a contribution are intended for users 16 or older, or the minimum age required where you live if higher. If you are under that age, you may use those features only with permission from a parent or guardian. If a feature is not available to you, the rest of the Service stays open.
You sign in with an email address and a password, and if you forget it we email a one time link that lets you set a new one. You are responsible for activity that happens through your account, for keeping your sign in method and any linked account secure, and for giving accurate information. If you believe someone else has access to your account, change your credentials, sign out everywhere from your settings, and contact support.
Usernames and display names must not impersonate others, violate trademarks, or contain slurs or harassment. We may reclaim or change names that create confusion or abuse.
You can delete your account yourself at any time from your settings. What deletion removes and what it deliberately keeps is set out in the Privacy Policy.
The Service does not offer open posting, comments, or forums. There are four things you can contribute, and they are treated differently:
You retain ownership of what you submit. By submitting it, you grant us a worldwide, non exclusive, royalty free licence to host, store, resize, cache, display, and — for catalog corrections — incorporate it into the Service and its catalog, for as long as we operate the Service. For corrections, that licence has to outlive your account: once a correction is accepted it becomes part of the catalog, and deleting your account does not roll the catalog back. Everything you contribute must be accurate to the best of your knowledge and must not infringe anyone's rights.
We may remove, refuse, or reverse any contribution, and suspend the ability to contribute, where it is inaccurate, abusive, infringing, or submitted in bad faith. If we later add features that let users publish content openly, we will add content rules, a licence, and a takedown policy at that time.
The Service shows information and media from third parties. We do not own that content, and your use of it must respect each source's terms.
What we host, precisely. We do not host or store music, audio, or band logos. Audio and video are streamed by the providers above and never touch our servers. Two things do: album cover thumbnails, which we fetch once from the Cover Art Archive and re-serve from our own domain at 250 or 500 pixels, so that browsing the catalog does not put load on a non-profit archive and so that your browser never has to contact them; and band photographs, which are shown only where the file is hosted on Wikimedia Commons under a licence that permits it, credited to the photographer and named licence beneath the image.
Both are reproduced for factual identification within a reference work, at a size suited to that purpose and no larger. If you hold rights in an image and would rather it were not shown, tell us and we will remove it — see Copyright and content notices.
Your reuse rights in openly licensed content. Text drawn from Wikipedia is under CC BY-SA 4.0, and you may reuse it under that licence: if you adapt it, credit the source and authors, link the licence, note your changes, and share your version under CC BY-SA 4.0. The core metadata we host is public domain under CC0 1.0, and we impose no reuse restriction on it. The restrictions in Acceptable use and our rights in Intellectual property do not apply to that openly licensed content.
TheMetalNet is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by YouTube or Google, Bandcamp, the Wikimedia Foundation, the Internet Archive, any music metadata database we draw on, or any artist, band, or label. If you are a rights holder and believe something should be corrected or removed, see Copyright and content notices below.
We own or license all rights in the original parts of the Service: the software, the visualizations, the 3D and graph engine, the design and look and feel, the TheMetalNet name and logo, our original text and graphics, and the way we select, arrange, enrich, and present data. We grant you a limited, personal, non exclusive, non transferable, revocable permission to use the Service for its intended purpose.
The TheMetalNet name and logo are our trademarks and may not be used without permission. Nothing here transfers rights in third party content, which stays with its owners, and nothing here restricts the openly licensed content described in Content sourcing.
Use the Service for lawful, personal, non commercial purposes. You must not, and must not let others:
Automated access is not allowed, except for well behaved search engine and AI crawlers that respect our robots.txt — those are welcome.
The Service plays audio and video through the embedded players of YouTube and Bandcamp. Connecting a third party account is not currently offered. For any provider whose player or account the Service uses, you agree that:
We use each provider's official embedded player and nothing else, and we do not download or store their content. The YouTube player is served from YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain and loads only after you press play — nothing from it reaches your browser while you are simply reading. Playback features depend on the provider: they may change, break, or stop if the provider changes or ends its service, with no liability to us. What each player receives when you press play is set out in the Privacy Policy.
The Service links to and works with third party services and sites — Wikipedia, artist and label sites, social accounts, other music platforms, and our feedback form among them. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, are not under our control, and their availability and policies may change without notice. A link is not an endorsement, and visiting a linked site is at your own risk. Third party media is provided as is and as available.
Financial support is voluntary: you choose whether to give, when, and how much. Preset tiers and a custom amount range are shown before checkout. Payments are processed by Polar, which acts as the merchant of record and is responsible for collecting and remitting any applicable sales tax or VAT; we do not receive or store your full card details.
Contributions are intended for users 18 or older. Unless required by law, they are not refundable once completed and give you no goods, services, perks, or ownership in return. They are not charitable donations and are not tax deductible. Chargebacks or payment disputes may result in loss of supporter recognition tied to that payment.
Contributions support platform development, hosting, and maintenance. We do not guarantee specific features, timelines, or outcomes in exchange for a contribution.
Our handling of personal information is described in the Privacy Policy. By using the Service you acknowledge that the processing described there will occur, including what we collect as a guest, what changes when you sign in, and how cookies, analytics, and third party processors fit in.
If you believe content on the Service infringes your rights or is unlawful, or you are an artist, label, or person who wants your own information, image, or link corrected or removed, send us a notice including:
Send notices to contact@solaris-e.comwith the subject “Content Notice”. We review valid notices within a reasonable time and may remove or disable the content. This is also our point of contact for notices under the EU Digital Services Act; the United States “penalty of perjury” statement is required only for notices under the US DMCA.
Counter notice. If your content was removed and you believe this was a mistake, send a counter notice using the same contact details, with your details, the content and where it was, a statement that you believe in good faith the removal was an error, and your consent to the jurisdiction described in Governing law. We may restore the content at our discretion, and may end access for anyone who repeatedly infringes or sends abusive notices.
The Service, all information, visuals, and third party media are provided as is and as available, with no warranties of any kind, express, implied, or statutory. Catalog data is community and third party sourced, may be incomplete or incorrect, and should not be relied on as an authoritative source. Recommendations are algorithmic and are not endorsements. Previews and album art come from a third party provider and may change or stop. We do not promise uninterrupted, secure, or error free access.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non infringement, accuracy, and availability, except warranties that cannot be excluded under consumer law.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we and our people and suppliers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, use, or goodwill, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service.
Our total liability for all claims related to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred United States dollars. Any claim must be brought within twelve months of the event that caused it, to the extent the law allows.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, willful misconduct or gross negligence, or anything that cannot be limited under mandatory law, including consumer law and the Israeli Standard Contracts Law, 5743-1982. If you are a consumer, these Terms do not affect your mandatory statutory rights.
You agree to cover Solaris and its people for claims, damages, and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your unlawful or willful misuse of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your infringement of a third party's rights. We may take sole control of the defence and settlement of any such claim, and you will cooperate. This does not apply where consumer law prohibits it, or to a minor where it cannot be enforced against them.
We may suspend or end access to the Service or any feature if you breach these Terms or misuse the Service, or to protect the Service, its users, or third parties. Where practical we will warn you first, but we may act immediately for serious abuse. For reasons other than your breach, we will give reasonable notice where we can.
You can stop using the Service, disconnect any linked account, or delete your account at any time. When access ends, we stop processing and delete or de-identify your personal data as described in the Privacy Policy.
We are not liable to you or any third party for suspending or ending access. The sections on intellectual property, your contributions' licence, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law survive termination.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, and the competent courts of the Tel Aviv-Jaffa district have exclusive jurisdiction. Before starting formal proceedings, both sides will try to resolve the matter directly for 30 days, except for urgent matters or claims about intellectual property or injunctions. If you are a consumer, you keep the mandatory protections of your country of residence and any right to bring proceedings there that cannot be excluded.
We may update these Terms as the product matures. If a change is material, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you in the app or by email, and where a feature uses your personal data, give you a chance to stop using it or disconnect before the change takes effect. We will not apply material changes retroactively. The “Last updated” date shows when these Terms last changed, and continued use after a change takes effect means you accept it.
