War Metal

War metal, also called bestial black/death metal, is an extreme and deliberately chaotic fusion of black and death metal defined by blasting tempos, dense distortion, and raw, almost formless production. It originated with Canada’s Blasphemy, whose 1990 debut Fallen Angel of Doom is considered the genre’s blueprint, while Australia’s Bestial Warlust helped popularize the war metal name. The music de-emphasizes melody and clear song structure in favor of speed, volume, and intensity, with hoarse barked vocals over relentless blast beats. Its themes are typically violent, blasphemous, and occult.
