Dissonant Black Metal

Dissonant black metal abandons traditional riffing for atonal, angular chords, warped harmonies, and a disorienting, alien sense of dread. France’s Deathspell Omega and Blut aus Nord led the way in the 2000s, drawing on modern classical, industrial, and avant-garde ideas to build music that feels labyrinthine and otherworldly. Expect complex, polyrhythmic structures, cavernous atmosphere, and often esoteric or theological themes. It is cerebral, difficult, and deliberately unsettling.
