What it is

Cyber metal is a sci-fi-tinted branch of industrial metal that layers cold electronics, EBM and trance synths, and a cosmic, futuristic sheen over metallic riffing. Norway’s The Kovenant crystallized the term around 1999 as they morphed from symphonic black metal into a chrome-plated, dystopian sound. Compared with older industrial metal it is more melodic and symphonic, trading mechanical repetition for spacey grandeur. Themes lean on technology, transhumanism, and science fiction.
